Milltown Public Library Card Design Contest

Eligibility and Submission Rules

• Entries must be received by the Milltown Public Library no later than December 4, 2026. Late or incomplete entries will not be considered.

• The contest is open to Milltown residents of all ages. The Library may require proof of residency.

• Each person may submit one design.

• The design must be the entrant’s own original work and must not have been previously sold, assigned, exclusively licensed or published for commercial use.

• The design may not contain copyrighted, trademarked or otherwise protected material belonging to another person or organization. This includes stock images, clip art, recognizable characters, company logos and artwork copied or closely derived from another source.

• Generative artificial intelligence may not be used to create or materially alter any part of the design. Ordinary digital drawing, scanning and photo-editing tools may be used, provided that all creative elements were made by the entrant. The Library may request sketches, source files or other information reasonably necessary to confirm how an entry was created.

• If a design includes an identifiable person, the entrant must have that person’s written permission. A parent or legal guardian must provide permission for anyone under 18.

• Designs must be appropriate for display and distribution by a public library. The Library may reject entries containing obscene, defamatory, discriminatory, threatening or otherwise inappropriate material.

• Entries may be created digitally or as two-dimensional physical artwork, but they must be suitable for conversion into a high-resolution digital image of at least 300 dpi at the final printed size.

• Entrants should use the Library Card Template as a guide for the shape, proportions and placement of the design. The words “Milltown Public Library” and other required card information will be added to the finished card, so entrants should leave sufficient open space for this information.

• Do not place the entrant’s name or contact information on the front of the artwork. This information must be provided on the separate entry and release form.

• Entries may be submitted:

  1. By email to milltownlibrary@gmail.com; or

  2. In person at the Milltown Public Library.

• Every entry must be accompanied by a completed and signed entry and release form (see below). Entrants under 18 must also provide the signature of a parent or legal guardian. An entry without the required signatures will not be eligible.

• Physical entries will not be returned and will become the property of the Milltown Public Library. The Library is not responsible for entries that are lost, damaged, corrupted or incorrectly submitted.

Selection and Community Voting

• Library staff will select up to 20 eligible designs for public display and community voting. The Library may select fewer than 20 designs if it determines that fewer entries meet the contest requirements.

• Designs will be displayed and available for voting from December 14 through December 23, 2026.

• Each person may cast one vote. The Library may reject duplicate, fraudulent, automated or otherwise manipulated votes.

• The eligible design receiving the greatest number of valid votes will be the winner. In the event of a tie, the winning design will be selected by a panel designated by the Library.

• The Library’s determinations concerning eligibility, finalists, vote validity and the winning entry are final.

• The winner is expected to be announced on December 30, 2026. The Library may adjust the judging, voting or announcement schedule if circumstances require.

Recognition and Use of the Winning Design

• No cash prize will be awarded.

• The Library intends to reproduce the winning design on library cards issued to new patrons and to patrons requesting replacement cards. Selection as the winner does not guarantee that the design will remain in use for any particular period.

• With the winner’s consent, the winner’s name will be printed on the back of the library card as the creator of the original design.

• The Library may crop, resize, recolor, simplify, edit, add text or logos, combine the design with other material, or make other changes necessary for printing, accessibility, branding or library use.

• The Library is not required to manufacture, publish, display, preserve or otherwise use any entry, including the winning entry.

• By entering, each entrant agrees to the copyright assignment and other terms contained in the signed entry and release form.
